A fantastic week at York was capped on Saturday with Opinion Poll doing the business and for good measure Berling winning at Chester. With the rule 4 10p applied the profit on the day was +9.3pts and overall since Wednesday a profit of +44.8pts. August as a result is well into healthy territory and the overall performance of personal wagers since the 30th March reads +82.475pts from 141 bets. If you include Cheltenham it’s over 140pts of profit so really happy with that! System bets have been a fair bit more disappointing recently and I need to decide probably at the end of August whether to discontinue with them. I will update all the results and spreadsheets sometime this coming week.
3.30 Hamilton –Record Breaker interests me at 16/1 for a number of reasons. Firstly the eye catching jockey booking – it’s quite possible Hanagan didn’t want to do the weight on Philharmonic Hall or he’s had enough of its ability to always find one or two too good but I’m surprised that Fahey has allowed Hanagan to get the ride on Mark Johnston’s Record Breaker. There may be nothing in the jockey booking but worth noting all the same. The horse as it goes seems to have lost the plot recently having been beaten by a total of over 150 lengths in his last 7 races since winning at Pontefract in April. He won that day from the front and bounded clear to win off a mark of 73. He now races off a mark of 70 having at one time last year been rated 100 and continues to slide down the handicap. Last time out he was given a poor ride by the claimer, slow out the stalls and never getting competitive, he’ll need to be prominent. His record at Hamilton is also pretty decent considering the overall profile having won once and run reasonably okay in June over the same distance. As I say he’s not one to get overly carried away with but if he retains any ability especially at the start of 2010 then he can get involved and at 16/1 he’s worth a stab. Plenty of likeable opponents and probable improvers for the step up in trip but I’m not going to over analyse them.
